Character types

Foil is a character who has the same background as the Katalyst

Archetype He or she is a character who predominantly exhibits goodness and struggles against evil in order to restore harmony and justice to society e.g. Beowulf, Hercules, D’artagnan from “The Three Musketeers”

Protagonist A protagonist is the central character in a story: the protagonist of Huckleberry Finn is — guess who? — Huckleberry Finn.

Antagonist An antagonist is someone who opposes someone else. In the book "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," the antagonist is the Grinch, because he tries to make life miserable for every Who down in Whoville.

Catalyst A catalyst is an event or person causing a change. Getting kicked out of your parents' house might be a catalyst for becoming more independent.

Round character A round character is a term coined by E.M. Forster and is the direct opposite of a flat character. A round character is extremely realistic, behaving and speaking in a "real life" manner. The character is complex and increases in complexity throughout the story.

Flat character A flat character is a type of character in fiction that does not change too much from the start of the narrative to its end. Flat characters are often said not to have any emotional depths. E. M. Foster has discussed some features of flat characters in his book “Aspects of the Novel

Growing character is a character that changes a lot throughout the story.

Caricature A caricature is a satirical, exaggerated portrayal of person. You'd better not caricature your father by walking bent-over and speaking in his high voice. If he catches you, you'll be in trouble!

The nuns priest tale

The pardoners of A fable has  moral tale that often features talking animals.A moral is a lesson at the end of the story. The nuns priest tale is a fable because it has talking animals, such as  sir Russell fox saying "Stretch it for me...," chanticleer says "Fox - you idiot! Fox. It also has a moral which is you  should always be on your guard against flatters and who opens their mouth when they should keep then shut can be caught. Sir Russell fox and Chaunticleer have told us that never open you're mouth or you will be caught. That proves this is a fable.

The pardoners tale

A morality tale is  a story that teaches us something throught the story and at the end there is a moral. The pardoners tale has all these features. One of the features is that is a moraity talel is that it has a moral at the end for example if you go looking for Death don't be surprised if you find him . When Tom, Dick and Harry go looking for death they find him and end up sell dying in a slow way. While Dick and Harry plan to kill Tom, he is planning to poison the drinks so they can die and so he can collect all the gold for himself. So in conclusion we know for sure that the tale is a morality tale.

Clock work

Clockwork is a suspense, fantasy, mystery and a science fiction.

Suspense
"And that was the man who"
That is suspense because the sentence hasn't been completed and we don't know who

'What's he he doing? That sword is sharp - stop it,Doctor! Make it stop!"
The sentence is involving some sort of danger with the sword there mifpght be some fighting going on

Fantasy
"What is that tune? Said Karl. Why does he stop for that ? It is a little tune called the flowers of Lapland."
Normally a clock cannot talk so this is unrealistic so it is a fantasy based sentence.

"The old cat Putzi was sitting outside, licking his paws, it was cold outside"
It is unrealistic for a cat to be sitting outside for a long time without wearing and winter clothes and not freeze and the fact that he was still showed that he wasn't feeling cold.

Mystery
Oh this is impossible How can i write an ending to the story
This builds up tense to the story that fritz couldn't complete the story and he will do it there meaning he will have to say random words.

Oh Gretl be careful stop don't say it ah too late
This is a mystery sentence because you don't know what Gretl has to say and it is a curse add to that, that you don't know who said that.

Suspense
Trouble will come of this it always pays to be polite even to dumb creatures
This is said by a ghost which we don't know

I hope it is a nice bloody murder
They are planing a murder

  • He is described as a selfish clockwork-maker.
  • He thinks that none of his ideas on what to make for the clock tower were good.
  • He acts selfishly.
  • He changes and becomes more interesting and suspicious.

Number 4

The metaphor is that sound as a bell means that she wants a kid who is calm and easy
The simile is that sound could mean noise or it could mean sound asleep and calm

Number 3

I think that artistic temperament in this case means that Karl scowled just before so he might be referring to that artists think that if one thing is wrong the piece is ruined and that artists are up tight and then he says have a beer, it might mean that he wants Karl to loosen up.
The author thinks that an artists temperament is point less

The artistic temperament! What nonsense! There's no such thing. Only amateurs have temperaments. Real artists get on with the job and don't fuss about it. If you hear any one talking about the artistic temperament, you can be sure they don't know what they're talking about.
